Mitch Gerig is the new Executive Director of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Permian Basin. He comes to the organization with over 30 years of experience in Education. He has been a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal with Ector County ISD and Plano ISD. Mr. Gerig also has experience in the non-profit world as the CEO of the Odessa YMCA. Mitch is also a former Big Brother and knows how powerful being a mentor can be. “I remember the positive impact the experience had, not only in the life of my Little, but also in my life. It is an extremely rewarding experience,” Mitch says. His experience as an educational leader and working with the youth in the Permian Basin gives Mitch the understanding of the need for having a positive mentor in the life of a child. “With all the challenges that are before our youth in our community and nationwide, the experiences of isolation during the COVID Pandemic, and our mental health crisis, there is a huge need for a positive mentor in a child's life.” Mitch says, “Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Permian Basin’s mission is to create and support one to one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Because of that mission, I cannot think of a better organization to work for than Big Brothers Big Sisters.”
